anCnoc Peter Arkle #3 “Bricks” Edition

ancnoc_arkleIf you read last week’s news you know pretty much all about this new expression released only recently by anCnoc. Besides the lovely Art work by Arkle, this whisky is also very tasty, having been matured in Spanish ex-sherry butts as well as American ex bourbon barrels. Like most anCnocs The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered and presented at its natural colour which we, whisky geeks like. The whisky is being launched this week at the Whisky Stramash show in Edinburgh, where you can have a try, if you’re lucky enough to have bought a ticket.

To mark this great collaboration ten whisky fans from around the world will see their personal anCnoc experience turned into unique bottle designs drawn by Peter Arkle himself. The competition, called #youranCnoc, will take place on the 17th June and all who wish to participate will be asked to tweet a photo of their perfect anCnoc moment that day. Ten entries selected by Peter will then be hand-drawn, transferred onto individual bottles of anCnoc and sent to the winners. Additionally, one lucky winner will be taken to New York to meet the artist and experience
the process of creating his remarkable illustrations first-hand.

anCnoc Peter Arkle #3, ‘Bricks’ edition , 46% abv, £49.99

Nose: Raisins , cereals and sweet honey, with a nice lemony touch , quite floral as well, with red apples and touch of vanilla, not overly sherried, but the raisin and maybe

a hint of fig gives it away.quite balanced, but on the sweeter side.

Palate: sherry on entry, with dark chocolate, and quite some wood too, which gives it a bitter sweet start, a bit of lemon rind there too. the second wave of flavours is sweeter, getting more toffee-ish and sweet with quite some sherry notes which give it a heavier, yet sweeter tone.

Finish :Spices, bitter chocolate that covers orange candy.

i was asked about how this one compares to Arkle #1,#2 (thank you Johanne for asking) , and if i have to compare, I’d say this one is a little bit less sweet, with a bit less sherry influence, although the sherry is evident. Well balanced, and quite different than the “regular” Ex-bourbon expression in the core range (12,16,22).

Score: 85/100
