Glenfarclas 2003 – Nickolls & Perks Cask#1448

Glenfarclas distillery believes in doing one thing great : distilling and aging whisky in Sherry casks, and as such are in the habit of releasing very good to excellent whiskies all the time. I’ve been trying to think of a Glenfarclas I’ve tried (and I’ve tried A lot) and did not like, and I think there isn’t. Clearly i was expecting another lovely dram this time, and at 57.5%, it surely promised to be a nice one.  This is a 2003 vintage ‘family cask’ bottled to celebrate N&P’s 215th Trading Anniversary. I really would love to thank the guys over at N&P for offering this wee sample – it was indeed a treat. Let’s dram:

2003 Glenfarclas Selection Cask#1448 57.5% , £100Nickols_Perks_GF

Nose: orange peel covered with chocolate. Marzipan. Sultanas in rum. Sponge cake drenched in liquor. Cinnamon and bit of wood varnish.

Palate: quite spicy and zingy on  entry. With lush oranges , dram chocolate and thick dried fruit paste with prunes and sultans. Water does do it good: more notes of dark chocolate , wood and cinnamon with a hint of white pepper.

Finish : wood, sultanas and dark chocolate.

Lovely indeed, does not feel so young, and really benefits from a few drops of water. As for the price : 100 quid is not cheap for a 10 year old dram even at CS, so I’d be happy if it were a bit cheaper, anyways, it’s yummy.
