Another Exclusive to TWE is this 21-year-old Caperdonich bottled by Signatory in their ‘vintage’ line. The whisky comes from one single HHD cask which held the liquid for the entire length of the maturation.
Caperdonich 2000 (TWE Exclusive) , 56.9% , £299
Nose: Starting quite sweet, with lots of vanilla custard, and some fruit on top (mostly berries and some ripe cherry jam), wood shavings, coconut shreds, golden syrup, some fried bananas on top of the whipped cream, sprinkled with maple syrup and a slight hint of raisins.
Palate: Sweet and creamy, with some wood spices on the get-go, a slight peppery/gingery heat which subsides to reveal more fruit, caramel notes, stewed apples, pears, and caramelized peaches, then off to woody notes, with more of the wood shavings, and almond filled pastries.
Finish: A nice melange of oak spices, sweet fruit, coconut milk dessert, and yellow sultanas.
Conclusion: Sweet, creamy, and lovely, with the wood playing a big part here, if you enjoy bourbon cask centric drams, this one is for you. Quite similar, but also different to the 2000 Caperdonich I reviewed not long ago here .
Score: 87/100
