TWE has teamed up with Glenfarclas to bottle two Exclusive bottles, the first of which is this 15 year old at British 100 proof (which is 57.1%). Not much info, other than that it was aged in sherry seasoned casks (obviously , this is Farclas!) . I am quite a fan of the ‘regular’ OB 15 and this one at a higher strength, sounds lovely.
Glenfarclas 15 Year Old 100 Proof TWE Exclusive , 57.1% , £74.95, TWE
Nose: Lovely dried fruit on entry, mostly macerated sultanas in sweet sherry, stewed apples (red mostly), and sweet pastries dipped in Creme Catalan, more apple peel, and a hint of sponge cake infused with soaked raisins, with caramelised brown sugar. Classic Farclas .
Palate: nice big mouthfeel, with a lot of sweet sultana fun, toffee, and wine tannins galore which gives way to spices (pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon) and some pastries with Chantilly cream, bitter wood, and even a touch of espresso, and dark chocolate ganache.
Finish: Toasted Oak, Dark chocolate, some fruit cake, and more spices along with the bittersweet chocolate notes.
Conclusion: Excellent balance of sweet/ bitter notes, with plenty of sherry goodness and wood char / caramel / spices. Good complexity, recommended for every GF fan out there.
Score: 88/100
