Clynelish 200514 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice for TWE , 51.8% , £94.95
Nose: deep and luscious with baked caramelized apple, dark fruit and wild flower honey, with touches of ripe orange and some salty caramel, a bit nutty as well, and herbal.
Palate: while the palate is sweet fruity and herbal, this is certainly deeper , darker and somber, but in a nice way – starting with black tea and tobacco leaves, dark chocolate with candied oranges peel, and some sherry tannins as well, which kicks in later on . a nice cinnamon and spice touch, and more candied orange. very nice stuff.
Finish: dark chocolate, and toffee’d apples.
Conclusion : Very good stuff indeed, and deeper than Expected, quite somber and sweet. Good sherry influence, and not too tanny or over-sweet. A good buy for winter.
Score: 88/100
