Single & Single is a South African independent bottler and the brainchild of Yossi Schwartz , a former Israeli who now lives in Cape Town. If you’ve been reading the blog regularly you must remember a tasting event we held for the entire S&S range about a year ago (all in this blog post). As it appears Yossi is hard at work choosing and bottling more single casks, and the latest cask he’s bottled is this Ledaig 13 yo. The whisky has been aged in American Oak for 12 years and finished in a Sherry cask for 12 months prior to being bottled at 58.1% The cask yielded 640 such bottles.
Single & Single Ledaig 13 yo , 58.1% , ~ £100
Nose: big and quite Smoky with an abundance of wood smoke, sweet glazed meat, cough syrup, sticky ripe black fruit and licorice. quite medicinal and honeyed. Intense and lovely.
Palate: big wine tannins (sherry finish after all…) with sweet Manuka honey, chocolate and spice (cinnamon, black pepper), lovely wood smoke with the sweet earthy and ashy notes on the next wave of sensations: nice sweet and salty / spicy interplay.
Finish : leather, quite herbal and smoky and long with a lengthy ashy note.
A very fine example of a nicely sherried Ledaig, with the smoke, spices, sweet notes and even some medicinal notes. Worth if you can find any 😉
Score: 88/100
