Nose: sweet sugary delights, thick sherry juices, deep Sultana and toffee, treacle and a hint of licorice, fruit cakes, and dried plums.
Palate : deep sweet compote, tobacco leaves, tea, lots of sweet sherry, with spicy wood, sweet and sour dark cherries, ripe plums and chocolate. Rich and thick.
Finish : earthy, dark chocolate, black tea and pepper.
Conclusion: This is highly enjoyable stuff with the sherry playing the sweet-sour game, plenty of sugar sweetness, prunes and sultanas, with a nice bitter / somber notes of black tea and earth to balance it. I really enjoyed the sour cherries / plums note on the nose with the treacle and sultana sweetness. Seems you can not go wrong with those young sherried ‘Livets. This one’s still available after quite some time, no idea why 😉
