It’s been quite a long time since I’ve posted a review for one of Wemyss malt’s single casks, and It’s always a treat to try some of their better casks, especially well aged Bunna. This is not the first and certainly not the last in a line of very good to excellent Bunna by Wemyss (Such as this one) . I was quite into a nice sherried whisky, so out of the two expressions of Bunna Wemyss in my tasting note Queue (yes, there’s such a thing) I opted for the darker one , as in – Give me more sherry! This one distilled in 1991, bottled in 2016, at quite a modest 45.6% abv, although this is a CASK STRENGTH bottling (well yea, that sort of cask).
The Ships Decanter 1991 – Wemyss Malts (Bunnahabhain) , 45.6%
Nose: We’re off to a good start with some lovely old wooden benches, old leather sofas, and Cigar boxes. A proper Gentleman’s club right? further nosing reveals some wet cardboard, caramelised apple, and lovely delicate sweet smoke combined with ripe plum, or maybe some plum wine.
Palate: The mouthfeel is lovely despite it being under 46% – deep and classy. Sweet smoke, cigar leaf, old sherry casks, chocolate sprinkled with sea salt. Wood varnish.
Finish : Sweet smoke, sweet plum wine, chocolate. Classic
Conclusion:
Excellent stuff, that’s fun to drink, in addition to being quite complex, and interesting, the sherry and the wood and smoke are very well integrated. Lovely stuff this really. You can still find some online (although not in Major online retailers) for about 150 Eur or so.
Great post! Have nice day ! 🙂 ayyeo
