This expressions was bottled in 2015 by G&M as part of their distillery labels series, which are lovely looking bottles indeed with the retro chic etc. I like those quite a bit. Distilled in 2005, this makes it 10 yo or so, and at 43 % abv , Let’s dive and see what’s under the hood.
Strathisla 2005 Distillery Labels , 43% abv, £41
Nose: That’s quite a classic speyside profile with fresh apple, pear and toffee’d apples as well, with some citrus undertone and a lovely malty and oaky touch, some spring flowers as well, quite fragrant. Not ultra complex, but very pleasing and fresh.
Palate: Orchard fruit, sweet ripe apple, vanilla and a nice oaky touch , gummy bears and sweets, and a nice mocha-cappuccino sort of feeling, pear drops and more toffee’d apple , bitter towards the end.
Finish: bitter sweet, coffee beans, vanilla and oak.
A rather easy drinking whisky, not very complex, but quite a nice sip for a hot summer day. Nice label, nicer than the inside.
