No reviews in the last week or so due to a work trip to India (and mostly had beer). I am back and so are whisky reviews, starting with one I’ve been meaning to try for a long time : The Macallan Edition No.2 . What’s that you ask? well: essentially it is a collaboration between Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and the three brothers behind El Celler de Can Roca (named Best Restaurant in the World twice by Restaurant magazine). Cask profile is a combination of European and American oak casks, bottled at 48.2% abv which is nice, this promises to be an interesting dram…
The Macallan Edition No.2 , 48.2% abv , £64 (MoM)
Nose: Rich and sweet: with raisins , mocha, Moscovado sugar, chocolate and a touch of pepper. Warm wood, and a musty edge. Quite nice!
Palate: Yum. It’s thick and chewable. There’s more sherry drenched sultanas, with dark maraschino cherry, candied orange, and more chocolate. More of a sherry edge, but well balanced. Tea, and spices.
Finish: pepper, oak, English cake. Raisins .
A fine whisky indeed, one of the nicest Macallans I’ve tried recently, and a notch better IMHO than the Double Cask I’ve written about some time ago (here). It offers a nice balance between darker sherry fruit, oak and spices. Really enjoyable, and although it’s lacking an Age statement, it’s not very expensive. Macallan Fans, ad whisky fans in general , this is indeed a dram to consider!
