We arrive at the oldest expression of the ‘Time’ series , a Benrinnes 20 yo aged in a ex-Bourbon cask, and bottled at 50% abv. Rather interesting, after the first 15 and 11 year old, we’re about to experience some older wood influence.
Benrinnes 20 yo, Time Series II – The Whisky Exchange , 50% abv , £79.95
Nose :Quite a lot of wood on first sniff, I quite like that. If you give it a few minutes to breath this subsides and it becomes fruitier and more perfumed. Fresh grass, peaches,a sour note as vanilla custard and some rose petals.
Palate : Lovely bitter fruity notes: Think ripe red grapefruit, spicy wood, perfume infused edible petals, ripe oranges, cinnamon and cloves. Bitter grapefruit pith. Lovely wood notes as well…
Finish: Bitter sweet grapefruit, wood. Dry fragrant. Lovely
Summary : Delightful stuff, very good cask indeed. I think this is my favorite of the range so far, and the price is not that bad too. Highly recommended.
