It’s that time of the year again, Xmas is almost around the corner, and The Malt whisky yearbook is out with a new edition. This is the 11th year this book is published, and it is as relevant as ever with new articles, insights and a lot of information, as you come to expect from previous editions. This year’s articles are very interesting (as usual) and very relevant :
- Gavin D Smith is visiting the (growing) single grain category, how the ugly duckling of the whisky industry and formerly thought of as “blending fodder” is turning into a sipping whisky with older, and high quality single grain labels…
- Neil Ridley with an excellent “Watch out! the millenials are coming” piece is taking a look at the whisky industry’s marketing schemes aimed at the new generation of whisky drinkers (generation ‘X’ and Generation ‘Y).
- Becky Paskin’s ‘Malts of no nation’ – is taking a look at distilleries in all corners of the world, new selling points and new categories of whiskies in countries that were making them already..
- Jonny McCormick is taking a journey trough the “pot stills’ in various distilleries.
- Charles McLean reveals so very interesting information, and anecdotes about the whisky and drinks giant ‘Diageo’, things you may have known, and i bet some things you have not..
- Ian Buxton is talking about whisky pricing, something not a lot of people want to discuss openly. Pricing, NAS, and more…
In addition to these lovely reads, there’s a vast and very detailed information about all the distilleries in Scotland (operating, closed, news ones), and also information about distilleries worldwide, whisky shops, and of course whisky statistics (year to year, and more), and information about independent bottlers.
All in all, a lovely read, with a lot of information that will last you a year. A very worthy book, and a great gift for any whisky lover if you’re looking for something special for the holidays. Good work as always, Ingvar.
