After the exceptional cask strength Bowmore (yes, we want more CS version, dear Wemyss.) It’s time to explore another tasty expression from the latest batch. This one is still available, which is good news. I’ve not had a lot of Indie Aberfeldy (Or any Aberfeldy) lately, so this was an interesting one to try.
Toffee Tuile 1999 (bottled 2014) – Wemyss Malts (Aberfeldy) , 46% abv , £80
Nose: Lovely wood going on here. Some coconut. Spices and butterscotch. Toffee if you will… This is a very fragrant nose – with caramelized biscuits. Sweet dough. I love it!
Palate: Sweet and lovely with fresh dough. Green apples, lots of spices. Brown sugar. Toasted oak and golden syrup. The toffee is back as well as old school butterscotch candy. Oaky and brilliant.
Finish: Malt. Sweet dough and hints of honey butterscotch and toasted oak.
This may not sound like something really groundbreaking, but somehow, everything just connects. It’s delicious. It’s a great dram, and I find that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A delicious dram, get one if you cant. It’s still available online (MOM stocks it for £80 which isn’t so bad).
