The Macallan Masters of Photography – Mario Testino – Review

The Macallan have recently announced the 5th pillar in their “Masters of photography” series – Mario Testino. This is a very posh edition with 6 different casks bottled as minis, and a very exclusive photography book. There are only 1,000 such editions, and they are clearly aimed at collectors, so I bet only a small fraction will ever be opened and drunk (if any). I was very lucky to get a pack with a sample bottle, a Macallan glass (cool!) and the Mario Testino Photo book (high quality stuff). I am not much of a photo critic but I do love a good Macallan when i can get my hands on it, and I was promised the liquid is top shelf, and so it was.

The Macallan Mario Testino, 46% abv, NAS, GBP 1,000 for the set of 6

Nose: that’s a classic Mac nose. Good old sherry with allspice , clove , XMAS cake  raisins

and dried fruit. The whole 9 yards. Epic. Add some orange marmalade to balance he sweetness and you’re off  p off to a cracking start.

Palate: Continuing the lovely nose were in sherry land. Sweet dried fruit and spices with a bit of pepper and allspice , caramelized biscuits and plums., a zingy ripe orange and cardamom.

Finish: dried fruit , cocoa and a touch of espresso and dry sherry.

Score: 89/100

This is a classic, sherried brilliant Macallan. Too bad we don’t get much so this and when we do it’s damn expensive. I love this.

Many thanks to the Macallan for the opportunity to taste this dram.
