Glen Moray Port Finish (NAS)

After the lovely Chardonnay cask Glen Moray 10 (brilliant stuff for the price!) , I really wanted to try this one which is rather new. Basically it’s the Classic GM finished in port casks for an additional 8 months (Tawny Port casks to be exact),bottled at 40% and without colouring which is nice given the lovely copper colour of this whisky (some will say pink) that can be attributed to the Tawny Port cask finish… Let’s take it for a spin, shall we?

Glen Moray Classic Port Cask Finish , 40.0%,£26 glen-moray-classic-port-cask-finish-whisky

Nose: Buttered pancake with fruit jam on top. Creamy and sweet which reminds me of the Chardonnay cask but with a sweeter fruity and almost chocolaty feel to it. Very gentle and not winey at all which is a good start!

Palate : This is lovely. More wine-y notes here but also brilliant chocolate coated caramel Bon-bons. Again fruity and silky with a great mouth feel to it, on second wave of sensations I’m picking up quite a bit of spices : pepper, clove , cinnamon and cocoa  just lovely with a long butterscotch feel.

Finish: Long and dry with wood chips , coconut and wine tannins as well as buttered toast.

Conclusion:

I really liked this dram : While it’s not the most complex and sophisticated whisky in the world, it is very very yummy. It’s easy to fall in love with this whisky, and it’s a great daily sipping, and quite moreish, and it will appeal both to newbies and whisky buffs. And for around 25 quid it’s a bargain! Go get one, you should.

Score: 84/100

Many thanks to Glen Moray for the very generous sample!
