Quite a few months back I received a few samples from Sjoerd (bottle share of the legendary Karuizawa, and a couple of others as a Bonus). This one sat and waited patiently and it’s finally time to review this baby. From what I remembered it’s a good one (So I was told by Sjoerd, and he’s usually right!).
Yoichi Single Cask 16, 1991-2007, #129493, 62% abv, Sold out
Nose: Sweet BBQ sauce. A hint of dirty sherry. Caramel candy. Sweet marinated chicken wings. Earth. Sweet condensed desert wine notes too. Mushroom mint. Alcoholic.
Palate: sweet Smokey and sharp. It’s a big palate. Lots of BBQ meat going on after being marinated in sweet plum wine. Lots of sugar too and spice. But BBQ is king. I love this profile. That smoke is so enticing then it gets salty.
Finish: Quite salty with remains of a sugary plum liquor (choya) and smoke. Meaty and tannic.
This is a massive whisky. And extremely tasty. I’m sad to only discover it now. Brilliance.
Score: 90/100
Cheers mate for the sample.
