This baby has been sitting here for quite some time waiting patiently since Jan 2014 , due to a very long queue, and other reasons i have no idea what they are… Back then my good mate Sjoerd who’s known for his bottle shared, arranged a share of Malts of Scotland and I immediately wanted a share. Better late then never, and this one was well worth the wait IMHO… Let’s roll.
Bunnahabhain 1973, Malts of Scotland, 50,2%, Sherry Butt #2424
Nose: aye. I like this nose a lot. Furniture polish. Old school benches. But that’s not everything: meaty notes And Xmas cake.cherries. Sweet and rich.
Palate: again very rich with the lovely wood varnish and polish notes. Xmas cake and a full house of spices. A hint of exotic fruit too and pink grapefruit
Finish: grapefruit wood varnish. Chocolaty and cherries.
I’ve seen others (Ruben for example) rate this dram much lower (80 or so), and for me this is a whole lot better. I really love the polished wood profile, and i certainly did not find it watery as some reviews hold. Well, palates are different , and that what makes it even more interesting, we each have our own preferences.
Probably sold out many months ago. But, if you can get hold of a dusty bottle from a hidden away shelf, get it!
I just ordered a bottle of this last week. Never mind that Ruben rates this one pretty low. He did the same thing with the Bunna 1973 TWA Sharks label. I loved that one. He said pretty much the same thing about both whisky’s. I’m sure I’ll love this one as much as the 1973 TWA.
ruben Who? 😉
haha. i loved it.
