This is a peaty expression from Mackmyra, which is said to use Juniper oak for the smoky seasoning. Bottled at 48,1% it does not bare an age statement, so i guess it’s fairly young, but it does not feel exceedingly young, which is nice.
Mackmyra Svensk Rök , 48,1% abv €59 [LMDW]
Nose: This starts very ashy and smoky, with Peat. some soapy notes, then getting Sweeter and more citrus like with quite a bit of lemon.
Palate: Quite sweet and earthy with hints of Ash, Pepper and earth, and maybe some kippers, however there is enough vanilla creaminess to balance it all
Finish: Quite short and Smoky, with tar, soot and ash.
This is a very pleasant whisky, for the peat / smoke lover. It’s not too dry, although the smoke / soot notes plays a major role in the taste / aroma profile over here. Don’t expect wonders, but it’s a good starting point for the smoky Mackmyra range.
