Let’s kick start this week with a single cask distilled at Clynelish (although not an average Clynelish), and bottled by Wemyss. I do love apple pies and apple crumbles and anything with cooked apples (my weak spot, along with lemon pies). So, what better than to try a liquid form of those?
Wemyss Malts Clyenlish 1997 , 46% abv, “Apple Basket”.
Nose: This is like sniffing a really good apple pie. Ripe apples within a sweet doughy crust. Sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Vanilla ice cream on the side. A delight. then a wee touch of spicy oak and a dash of lemon.
Palate: Starts with a peppery bite then cinnamon covered stewed apples. Vanilla custard. A hint of smoky tobacco leaves and toasted oak.
Finish: Sun dried apple. Pepper and cinnamon. Cocoa.
Delightful. No waxy notes but yum, this is one yummy Clynelish. Good selection of casks ladies and gents!
