Continuing the very interesting line of Sherry cask finished single malts from Master of Malt (Maverick Drinks). This time they took a 15 year old Macallan and finished it in 50 litre first-fill Pedro Ximénez casks for an additional 3 months. What happened? Good things did happen, i assure you.
Darkness! Macallan 15 Year Old Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish,52.3%,£109
Nose: A nice mix of dried fruit: sultana and fig spread , cinnamon mint leaves and pepper. Lovely notes of polished wood and spices with cinnamon rolls.
Palate: Sweet rich and thick. Lots of sherry influence over here. A bit of pepper and lots of dried fruit: raisin, plum and some nuts with zingy ginger to add spiciness. Maybe some tea leaves too.
Finish: quite long. Dry with plum juice. Fig spread and concentrated sherry extract.
This is a fine piece of work for sure, Super sweet , Rich and delightful. If you’re not into sweet whisky and big sherry, this whisky is clearly not for you. But, if you’re a sherry fan (quite like myself) or got a sweet tooth, this luscious fruity, deep and dark concoction is up your alley. It’s Cask strength, and will serve as a brilliant after dinner dram, or accompany a nice desert. For half a litre 109 quid is not very cheap, but again Macallan prices are on the rise and this is quite limited stuff. I am pretty surprised this has not sold out yet. Make someone happy and buy him this dram as a gift. I suspect he’ll remember it for a long time.
And, by ‘buy him this dram’ Gal of course means ‘buy me this dram’. And rightly so.
You’re a smart man Stuart!
