Question: What’s the shortest time span known to mankind?
Answer: It’s the time it takes a single cask Ardbeg to sell out on any Whisky merchant’s website… This one was not different, and I guess it sold out in minutes. But luckily I still got a sample of that lovely stuff to try, so here goes, and don’t bang your head on the wall for now buying any QUICK enough, It’s just madness.
This Ardbeg may spent 3 months in a tiny, specially rebuilt 50 litre first-fill Sherry cask (a fresh Pedro Ximénez cask in this case).
Darkness! Ardbeg 21 Year Old Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish, 40.1% abv , £119 (Sold Out)
Nose: starts with lemon pie, soot and ginger. Apple peel and some dark succulent fruit: cranberries blueberries and cherries. Faint BBQ pork in sweet marinade too.
Palate: Whoosh!! Sweet dried fruits and cinnamon spice. Sweet PX sherry with dates and nuts and of cores well integrated with soot and sweet peat smoke and Choya plum liquor and brine.
Finish: chocolate Bon-bons filled with sweet liquor, dried fruit and distant BBQ fires and salt.
It’s a damn tasty whisky for sure, and Although most purchases were probably made by collectors, It’s one to def. drink. A nice thick sherry influence, that goes very well with the sooty spirit. I loved it.
Score: 90/100
Cheers for the sample, chaps!
