The latest addition from Wemyss Malts, after the successful 15 year old similar blended whisky. This contains a fairly high percentage of malt (40%) and is bottled without an age statement, I tasted this one as part of the Wemyss Malts Twitter tasting session we just held.
Lord Elcho NAS, 40% abv, £23.95
Nose: Sweet dough, hint of butterscotch and a cooked apple strudel / crumble. some more fruit after some time with ripe melon , quite honeyed with a dash of lemon rind.
Palate: Nice and sweet, with some fudge, vanilla, sherry, cooked apples, with milk chocolate, honey and nut chocolate sort of, cooked apples, fudge, vanilla and biter cocoa.
Finish: Finish: chocolate coated almonds, orange, vanilla and spice (cloves, cinnamon, cocoa).
In short: Very good, very approachable , dangerously quaffable, I can see myself drinking A LOT of this without even trying… It’s smooth and certainly speaks for itself- great blending was done here. no doubt. Impressive.
