Time for some Glenrothes (inspired by some tweets I’ve seen yesterday from my friend Dave who’s visiting the distillery [you lucky dog!]). This is the first vintage form the 21st century and bottled in 2012. It’s a classic GR alright.
Glenrothes 2001 , 43.0%,£61
Nose: Very nice with the signature caramel candy (for me at least) in the form of Werthers Original , cereal-y, and very and malty, with some orange rind, lemon zest and spices. classic nose, fragrant and appealing, if not very complex.
Palate: Lemon zest, and ripe orange, red fruit and caramel fudge, sprinkled with cinnamon. easy to drink quite a bit of that. it’s a palate pleaser.
Finish: Medium with the sweet cereal and vanilla, some sandalwood, quite dry.
It’s a nice easy drinking whisky, not ultra complex, but quite the palate pleaser, you can sip quite a bit of at one sitting without even noticing it. I rather like this kind of profile, and as a session whisky, this is good stuff.I’d expect a bit more for 60 quid, maybe higher ABV. If we’re talking VFM, you can do better with other similar whiskies, but for Glenrothes fans, this is going to be like coming home. familiar, and cozy.
Score: 84/100
Cheers for the sample guys.
I agree, It reminded me most of the Glenrothes 94 which was one of my favorite “Go to” whisky’s. I’m should definitely get one.
Also: Dave – Say hi to Eric from me 🙂
Indeed. you should def. get one for daily dramming 😉 if you fly out make sure to check out the elder’s reserve from the Manse Brae collection (duty free only).
cheers for the comments.
