It’s really about time I posted my notes and actually taste this one. 1983, seems it was just a few years ago, but It’s some 30 years ago! boy I am getting old. I remember 1983 quire vividly as a kid, and here this one is considered an old dram. oh well, better enjoy it then.
Balblair 1983 – 1st Release , 46.0%, £210
Nose: splash. What a sweet and concentrated nose: dried pineapple, a lot of vanilla. Sandalwood, rose water , unripe banana all balanced by some notes of balsamic concentrate . Sweet and luscious. Wow. Really a hedonistic nose, not sure I expected that.
Palate: Vanilla pods, nice wood influence with sweet sandalwood , pepper, citrus sugar and honey backed by pear and apple sprinkled with cinnamon.
Finish : Sandalwood sugar and spices.
Bottom line:
This is a Luscious, Fruity, Sweet and Brilliant dram. Really exquisite Bourbon characteristics, without being too woody. It does not feel that old, really does not.
