It has been silent on the whisky front in the last few days as I was enjoying the wonders of Rome, Italy. What a great place, with amazing wine, grappa and food. Now that I’m back at Whisky Israel HQ, we can continue with some new and exciting tasting notes. a lot is planned for the near future, so keep an eye. This wee dram was sent to me as a bonus sample on my last Whisky Base order. The “Archives” series from WB offers a good price/quality ratio and this is no exception.
Deanston 1997 Archives, 55.8% abv , € 55 cask #1959
Nose: Sweet wood with lots of sugar and vanilla. Stewed apples, pear , cinnamon and a dash of dried coconut. Big wood influence.
Palate: Rather spicy on entry. Pepper. Spiced wood, apples and cinnamon. Pear pie. Wood shavings. Sweet then getting drier and bitter towards the end.
Finish: Bitter wood. Chocolate and red stewed apples.
This is really Nice stuff, not over complex, but very good fruit and oak ratio and very easy sipping I imagine it would go very well with an apple pie or similar sort of desert. And the price is also right. 55 Euro is really not a lot for a 15 year old dram at CS. Good work guys.
