A few weeks ago I reviewed the Dailuaine 21 year old , and it set quite high expectations, a Bunna aged 23 years old, usually means fun. And this one is indeed a lovely drop of drammage. Bottled at 46,1% abv, it’s not the highest abv monster around (I wonder if this is watered down or just a really funky cask, raided by the angels).
Kintra Bunnahabhain 23yo, cask #5741, 46,1%
nose: A very nice and light sort of nose, hints of carbolic soap A bit flinty with malt, vanilla, and some apple and pear in the background, certainly one of the lightest Islays out there.
Palate: Smoke: a lot more than the nose would ever reveal, malty and meaty sort of palate, with some creamy vanilla too. spices and some minerality with a hint of nuts.
Finish: Sweet malt, smoke getting drier and smokier.
A lovely dram this one is, Don’t expect a highly peated bunna (this is not one), It’s quite gentle, but does deliver enough smoke with the right amount of fruit, and vanilla. 46% more or less, it’s very drinkable. no water needed. Good stuff.
