Peat monster was first released 10 years ago and turned out to be Compass Box’s biggest seller, and I know many people who love that dram dearly and associate Compass Box with it. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, CB have released a special bottling (5,700 bottles) at 48.9%, consisting of Islay single malts distilled on the south shore of the island and in the village of Port Askaig as well as smoky Highland single malt and a fruity oily malt from the village of Brora. the casks used are Primarily a mix of first-fill and refill American oak, plus proximately 2% new French oak for finishing the whisky is not chill filtered and bottled at Natural color. Very interesting to see how this one differs from the “regular” recipe.

Nose: Major peat reek over here. Leather, Wood smoke,Iodine and wet Bandages. Really medicinal stuff if you like that…. Islay lovers are in for a treat. Also love the BBQ smoke ,Peppermint and pine too.
Palate: Big peat and ash with a malty backbone and a hint of apples. Creamy yet very smoky with wood smoke , soot , leather and dough. Some chilly infused chocolate, hints of Waxy Clynelish (village of Brora eh?)
Finish : Long. Sooty ashy and hot. Chocolate and bitter wood.
Great stuff. Go get it, Peat monster lovers.
