Auchroisk is not very common to find as an OB (except Flor & Fauna) and most of its whisky goes into Diageo Blends… However there are quite a few Indie bottlings out there, although I doubt I’ve tried more than one or two… It is indeed a mystery to me, and I was glad to try the latest offering in the OP range from D.Laing. bottled at 48.4% as an 18 yo It indeed intrigued me. Let’s see how it is…
Auchroisk 18 Year Old 1994 (cask 9899) – Old Particular , 48.40% , £82
Nose: This one starts very sweet with lots of vanilla. Coconut oil. Sweet candy and lots of woody notes: pencil box, lemon sherbet. Flower petals. Fragrant.
Palate: Rich & spicy, it then gets sweeter with vanilla custard, rose water, soft spices and an earthy feel to it.
Finish: Wood. Vanilla. Cocoa.
A rather nice whisky, if not overwhelming. Good nice ex-bourbon profile, with a nice mouth feel to it, yet not truly exciting. Can’t go wrong with that one, and the price is ok too, if not very cheap.
Score: 86/100
