Last month Wemyss malts announced an epic release of 12 single casks in one go. I managed to get hold of 6 of those, and will be reviewing them on the blog in the coming weeks. The first I chose to review was this Buna 1991. I was in the mood for a mild Islay and what better specimen than a Bunnahabhain to accomplish just that. This is a 1991, bottled at 46%, from a single Hogshead. Let’s dram:
Bunnahabhain 1991 Wemyss Seaweed On The Rocks , 46%, £67
Nose: Very coastal. Brine. Sea breeze. Crayfish. White pepper and citrus. Some orchard fruit sweetness too. Pears. hints of apricot as well. Lovely, and quit delicate Islay. Bunna, right?
Palate: Sea salt. Cereal. Vanilla. Peat and brine. Developing into sweeter creamy notes then a flip backwards into more salty nuts.
Finish:Salt. Nuts. Cereal
A lovely coastal dram, a bit of fruit and cereal too. Not in your face sort of whisky, but milder and very nice actually. Good stuff.
