Kilchoman has been releasing young and younger expressions in recent years, and patience does pay : they are now releasing a regular (non single cask) bottling of their oldest stock to date : 2007 vintage which is 6 years of age. After the brilliant 100% Islay, and Machir Bay editions(both reviewed on the blog). This is a vatting of 100% first fill ex-bourbon casks.
Kilchoman 6 Year Old 2007 , 46%,£53
Nose: Smoked bacon big time. Lemon rind. Crushed green grass. Peat and peppermint. Cinnamon gum.
Palate: Earthy and peaty. With pepper , hot cinnamon. BBQ pork and sweet BBQ marinade. Ash. Burnt sugar. Leather and salt. Bacon crisps and some sweeter aromas of rose water and sesame halva.
Finish: Long wood smoke. Ash. BBQ marinade. Bacon crisps.
Superb stuff. Sweet, and hot , with lovely BBQ, smoke and sweeter exotic notes (halva and rosewater). This makes me impatient to wait another 2-3 years, since i know how good it shall be then. Excellent stuff for an OK price. Get one. I will certainly.
How can one get a hold of a Klichoman (or Bruichladdich for that matter) in Israel?
Tom, there are none in Israel. Bruichladdich used to be in “Tiv T’aam’ but not sure anymore…
sad.
