This Bowmore has been released a few months ago (august or so) and has spent its life inside port casks for the entire 23 years.I love me some port casks, but Sometimes I have difficulties with the bowmores of the late 80’s as they are too much perfumed for my taste (you can call it Parma Violets etc). I was hoping this was not the case, as I’ve heard and read many good reviews about this dram. Let’s see then
Bowmore 23 year old Port matured , 50.8% , £380
Nose: This is a rich dram no doubt. And a true Bowmore from start to finish. Lovely smokiness with a Parma violet filled whiff of smoke. Rum soaked raisins and BBQ marinade. Rich sweet smoky and savoury, with a bit of sea spray saltiness.
Palate: Again that Parma violet note I’m a bit sensitive too. Very perfumed sort of. With a nice smoky touch and deep sweet thick dark chocolate and ripe cherry feel to it. Some blood oranges and peppery sweet meat marinade with plums and also some tannins.
Finish: Dark chocolate. Parma violets. Ripe orange, and a whiff of smoke.
This is for Bowmore die hard fans with a bit too much Parma violets for my taste, but Good stuff nonetheless . I would recommedn this one to those who REALLY like Bowmore, as to pay 380 quid! for a 23 year old… and those who do not mind the extra Parma violet notes.
