Douglas Laing’s Old Particular is a a relative new series of single cask expressions bottled at Premium strengths , without colouring and without chill filtration. They are presented at various abv%, and the first one I’d like to review is the Glen Garioch , aged 21 yo, and bottled at 51.5%. Earlier this year Douglas Laing had split into two separate companies : D.Laing, and hunter Laing dividing their whisky offering among the now two separate whisky companies. This is the first new series created by D.Laing for its older single casks range (since Old Malt cask now belongs to H.Laing). All newly designed, with great looking bottles, and very interesting single cask offerings.
D.Laing Old Particular Glen Garioch 21 yo, 51.5% , £85
Nose: really fragrant but in a good way. No FWP here for me. Some old style candy. Wood and icing sugar with vanilla and a hint of crème Catalan.
Palate: sweet creamy. Granola and banana with double cream and honey. With a hint of proper and pencil shaving.
Finish: malty. Spicy. Bitter wood. Vanilla.
This is a very good cask, displaying sweet, creamy malty and yummy notes, easy to relate to. Rich and sweet in flavours, not a tad too woody, It does offer a good example of current G.Garioch bottlings with an extra pizazz. Good work guys! Looking forward to trying more of this range.
