Caol Ila “Young & Feisty” – Provenance (Douglas Laing) , 46% , £53
Sometimes whisky has to be whisky. nothing more. sometimes you reach for the “peat” shelf, in search for a young feisty Islay. This is what you might expect:
Nose: Sweet peat with pear drops , salt, cinnamon tar and malt. Some kerosene. A young Caol Ila. Classic nose. Don’t expect wonders or exotic fruit over here. but you get what you pay for.
Palate: New leather , candy peat and salt. Fried Bacon chips. Hot cinnamon. Chilly.
Finish: Smoked bacon. Chilly.
Lovely classic Islay. With sweat, peat smoke and salt. Young it is, and Feisty, for sure. It’s WYSIWYG, that simple. I’d love to see it bottled at over 46%, but it’s fine as it is. Price wise it’s quite more expensive than the OB 12 from CI (almost 20 quid more), and while it’s lovely, I am not sure if Id reach into my pocket and shell out 20 more quid for this if I were on a budget.
