Yesterday’s 3 pot still guest post made me long for more Irish gems, and what better than Redbreast one of the better known Single Pot still. It’s the first time I get to sample the 15 year old , and having loved the 12 yo, this one promises to be a treat. At over £60 , It’s about 20 quid more than its younger sibling, and is bottled at a higher abv% of 46%, which is always nicer.
Redbreast 15 Year Old , 46% , £66.22 (at Master of malt)
Nose: Thick caramel and toffee. Vanilla with Creme brûlée and citrus. Then getting tropical with fruit and sugar : Papaya, Guava. A lovely nose really.
Palate: Starts tropical with a lot of fruit. Guava, Grapefruit, green banana which develops into Wood resin and caramel. Ending with bitter chocolate.
Finish :Grapefruit pith. Sugar. Cocoa powder.
A brilliant nose, and terrific palate. I’ve heard some stating they prefer the 12 yo over this one, but for me this is the better of the two. Really good, and delivers absolutely stunning quality. For the price, this is a no- brainer. terrific whisky IMHO. Must. Get.
