Longest name EVER for a dram? Probably. (and thank to PS for the idea and dram).
This is the fourth in the Laddie First Growth series, aged for 16 years in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in Pessac-Léognan(Chateau Haut-Brion) [ex wine] casks. Another experiment from the Laddie in esoteric wine cask finished, and frankly? It’s rather nice. You never know with those finishes, but here it turns out just fine …
Bruichladdich First Growth Cuvée D ,16 yo (sold out)
Nose: definitelya Laddie, and absolutely winey on the nose. quite sweet, with some fruit (fig, over ripe oranges) , a bit of earth, and sour balsamic, some vanilla and malt, with sour bread and hint of wine gums.
Palate: The palate feels very rich, and i was very surprised when i noticed it was only 46% as it feels much thicker and fuller. so abv, is not everything… Again, some fruit marmalade, quite thick and sweet, with some zest, grape peels, quite a few tannins too. Berries, and a lot of malt, zingy spice too.
Finish: Fruit marmalade, pepper, chilly and bitter wood.
A rather nice and not over tannin-y with some nice fruit and marmalade, a great mouth-feel for 46%.
