Another fine example of Wemyss single casks, this time Lowlander Auchentoshan from 1998, total of 294 bottles available at 46% abv (yes yes, i know. we want more). Quite a nice dram actually, from an underrated (some would say, rightfully so) distillery and the second dram from the latest batch of single casks released by Wemyss malts in 2013.
Wemyss malts Candied Fruit–1998 Auchentoshan , 46% abv
Nose: A nice walk down memory lane, old school candy shops like the ones we had when I was a wee kid, with all those Gummy bears and other boiled candy with all sorts of colours and fragrances , some Fragrant oak. Bits of fruity jelly beans. Lemon. Grape peel.
Palate: Old style candy. Sugar icing. Sawdust a little zingy touch of ginger and ginger candy.
Finish: creamy wood. Sawdust. Sweet n’ bitter chocolate.
Solid stuff, and no surprise here. It’s not bad, but not as good as the Chocolate Honeycomb I reviewed a little while ago.
Score: 84/100
