Not long ago I featured this new relaunch (by Ian Macleod Distillers) in the whisky news, and It’s time to taste this quite uniquely packaged whisky. The bottle as you can see is a bit how shall we say “special”. Some like it, and some hate it, but no one is indifferent to it. When i first saw it I must admit it was not something I liked immediatly. I thought it looked too much like a soda bottle, and what do Tamdhu want to say about this whisky? That it’s good only with soda? But after seeing the bottle on my shelf for a few days, I kind of started liking it. It’s not like the rest, and is quite Retro. so, you decide. What’s more important is what’s in the bottle and not the shape of the bottle, right? And what’s inside is pretty cool IMHO. I’ve not tasted the “older” Tamdhu 10 but was pleasantly surprised by this one on first sip. Let’s roll.
Tamdu 10 yo, 40% ABV, £30.45
Nose: sweet and lovely with lots of vanilla goodness, toffee, soft spices and a hint of orange peel. A wee bit of sulphur. Which I like. But f you’re really sensitive to it. Well…
Palate: Thick and rich. Maintaining the sweet profile: lots of sherry , and I do mean lots. It’s very sweet but not cloying. Quite a lot of toffee too and a nice fruity touch too. Raisins. Apricots. (dried). Getting more woody with chocolate mousse.
Finish: nuts. Covered by semi sweet chocolate praline then dried apricot.
Bottom line:
Very nice even though its not too complex, but very very drinkable, and I mean dangerously drinkable.you can kill half a bottle in one session. easily. That’s a good sign for in my book, right? Those who do not like sweet drams should look elsewhere, but if you’re fond of a nice sherried, sweet dram. Look no further. The price is right too.
