Strathmill single malt? when have you seen a bottle of that on a whisky shelf recently? Odds are you you have not, since this distillery (owned by Diageo) is not really into selling single malt , but rather distils malt for use in the various Diageo blends, or something of the like. I’ve googled it, and found out it has a 1,700,000 Litres / year capacity, doing that with 2 wash stills and 2 spirit stills. It’s definitely my first Strathmill, so you can tick off another distillery from the “distilleries i have not yet tried anything from”.
This is a nice 21 year old single cask at cask strength (yes!) from The Maltman, and a truly interesting dram.
Strathmill 21 yo (The Maltman) , 50.5% abv
Nose: Grassy but quite sweet too with dollops of toffee and caramel , honey , pine needles and wood, a very nice nose which promises quite a bit…
Palate: Spicy and peppery. With nice fruity notes that develop with a bit of time : apple, pear and sweet sultana. Quite thick and chewy. Warming wood and a zingy finish with some bitterness and dry woody notes.
Finish: Hot with chilly and pepper oak and sugar.
A fine dram, with a lovely nose, and a good palate and mouth feel. Very enjoyable at this ABV. A nice selection of cask, from a distillery you do not get to sample everyday.
Score : 86/100

The title of this post misspells the distillery 🙂
Cheers, fixed 😉
Sounds delicious!
