This HP was bottled by the Whisky shop in their Glenkeir treasure series (previously reviewed the Jura) and kindly sent to me by my whisky mate Tom (thank you!). I quite like HP whiskies as you all know, and this one is a fine example.
Highland Park 1994 18 yo [Glenkeir Treasure Selection] , £54.00 (0,5 L)
Nose: Nice sweetness and earthy notes at the same time. Gentle smoke and heathery peat. Highland park. No doubt. Raisins. Not as woody and not as sweet and perfumed as OB HP 18 goes. A little time in the glass opens it up to reveal even more heather and sweeter notes.
Palate: Yumm. Much sweeter than the nose suggested. Very nice stuff we got over here: malt , vanilla and quite some sherry influence here with a dash of black pepper and cinnamon. Toasted oak. Candied ginger. Sultanas. Honey dew. Lovely.
Finish: Cinnamon & wood spices. Pepper and sweet malt and whiffs of peat smoke ,getting dry.
A lovely dram this one. I wonder how much better it could have been if bottled at the cask strength and not watered down, I’d say 90’s for sure ,but we’ll never know that.
Score: 88/100
Many thanks to Tom T for this wee sample
