Single Cask Nation is a range of single cask bottlings by the Jewish Whisky Company , set up by Joshua Hatton, Jason J.Yellin and (two well known bloggers at Guid Scotch Drink and Jewmalt Whisky) and Seth who is a more silent member of the team and not a blogger. It’s not a secret that Josh and I are old whisky friends and have been in contact for the past few years, and this makes me all the more eager and happy to be able to review their offerings, and to watch another whisky friend peresue his dream.
They have chosen a business model resembling the SMWS where you have to be a member and pay a membership fee in order to receive / buy more bottles. Check out their cool site.
I will be reviewing their first batch of bottlings which Include this Kilchoman, an Arran, and a Benriach, all single casks. Lovely.
Single Cask Nation Kilchoman 2007 , 58.4% , cask #378/07, 245 bottles
Nose: starts spicy – sweet with peppermint cinnamon gum , peat , BBQ smoke as in sweet BBQ marinade some vanilla too. Soot and wee soapiness with brine and smoke. It’s young and Alive!
Palate: very nice mouth feel at this abv. Very peaty , earthy with some smoke getting bitter and dry with a pinch of cinnamon and dash of mint and rubber boots. Peat peat peat. Bring it on. If you lick your lips you get some sea spray and salt.
Finish : dry bitter. Ash. Smoke. Pepper and charred wood.
All in all this is a lovely cask! and one of the better Kilchomans i’ve tried.A few months ago i opted for a single cask OB Kilchoman bottled for the whisky shop in SF, and i have to admit this one is a tad better. So, good choice of cask Josh & Jason. well done.
