Some more Single cask kintras after that lovely Glen keith we sampled earlier this week. the first is a Bowmore , 13y, cask No. 80030 (bourbon), 51.1%, distilled in 1998 and bottled 2012.
Kintra Whisky, Bowmore 13 yo , € 66.99
Nose: Soap, wee peat smoke, wood and liquorice candy , fennel.
Palate: Much more smoke than you would expect only from the nose, chilly, spices, bitter sweet wood, peat, with a sweet and spicy middle, then developing into ash, salt.getting very earthy and bitter.
Finish : Bitter wood, earth, spice, salt and smoke.
It’s like a bitter ashtray finish. a bit weird for a Bowmore, more like a very dry Ardbeg sort of finish. Not my favourite Islay or Kintra so far.
Score: 83/100
Kintra Bladnoch 22yo ,49% , € 77.99 , 120 btl
Nose: Starts quite grassy with fresh mowed loans, then gets fruitier and woodier with some wood resin, and sweet fruit and honey, as well as vanilla and citrus.
Palate:Citrus notes as well as warm vanilla and fudge, with apricot, wood and a sweet fruit then a pinch of salty butter on toast.
Finish: Drying and bitter sweet, cocoa, and dark chocolate, with a woody ending, and some nuts.
Score: 86/100
