I woke up and read my email today when I came across a a lovely email from my good whisky friend Marc from SA who just announced he’s opening a new whisky shop in Johannesburg, SA.
Marc is a lovely fella , and we’ve met and shared a few drams when he was visiting Israel a few months back, he’s a true whisky lover, and I am very happy he’s been able to combine his love for whisky, and business, and open that place.
I don’t normally do this kind of thing publicizing a certain shop, but since mark is a friend and it’s a very unique endeavour I thought I’d let you all know about it.
So, blog readers in SA, check out his brand new store, which is supposed top open November 26th. more info can be found in his blog.
Good luck mate, and hope you do great, and bring the whisky gospel to the Africa.
I've written about Whisky Brother shop in Jo-burg SA before, A lovely place owned by Marc who's also a whisky friend. They do bottle exclusive single casks from time to time, and I was happy to receive another sample of their latest exclusive single cask they bottled from the Glendronach…
Whiskybrother is a shop located in Johannesburg, SA, and owed by Marc Pendelbury who’s a fellow whisky blogger and friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Marc a few years back when he was visiting Israel, after knowing him online for some time, and he’s a real great guy and…

A sincere thank you Gal, I really appreciate the post, it means a great deal. It has been through meeting fellow whisky lovers, both locally in South Africa and overseas like Israel, that has inspired me and given me the necessary confidence to follow my dream and open a specialty store. I really look forward to you, and your fellow WI members, visiting one day!
my friend, with 300% tax, and 95% of all whisky in IL purchased in the duty free, a whisky shop has no future. Believe me i have given it thought a few times in the past. only if tax changes are put into motion a shop like that can exist….
Yeah, that’s pretty extreme. As far as i know we have a fixed tax of about 5 euro (nis 25) on a 0.7 litre bottle of booze here.. You should move here pal
