Another week starts with an Indie bottling by Whiskybase (Archives) this time a Glenrothes, single cask from 1988, ex-sherry cask #7318. Been quit a while since I had a new (to me Glenrothes, and although I am fond of Glenrothes their OBs are mostly diluted and colored which is a turn off, though some older ones are really nice.
Glenrothes 23 yo 1988 ,53,4%, Archives 2012, #7318, 80 bottles
Nose: starts with pepper, Spice. Malt. Wee cinnamon and quite some ginger powder. off to damp wood. Apples.
Palate: Sweet and spicy with cereals. Peppery even getting chilly. A weird Combo of spicy vanilla cream and stewed fruit : peaches, apples & pears Compote.
Finish: Spicy. Cereals with lingering crushed apple purée.
A nice dram, well made, but not quite as good as the previous Isle Of Jura 1988 I tasted last week. a nice detour.
