Tasting Caperdonich 1969 by G&M

Caperdonich

So, Demolished distillery bottling, are they tastier? or are we just missing those distilleries caperdonich_1969_G_Mwhich will never operate again? That is a good question I need to devote an entire post to, or even a poll, but until then we’ll give Caperdonich the benefit of the doubt, as it is one of those distilleries that ceased to operate but yielded wonderful whiskies.

Another sample which arrived by surprise from an Austrian whisky friend and connoisseur, Bottled in 2009 and distilled in 1969, making it 40 year old. I was a bit disappointed to see it was only at 46%, but As we’re about to see, this fact does not make it a lesser dram by not means. Aged in a 2nd Fill Remade Hogsheads , it shouldn’t be a monster, but a gentler being Winking smile

Caperdonich G&M 1969 , 40yo , 46% ABV

Nose: Starts very fruity and delicious with cherries, Black fruit and a twist of exotic fruit . Very sweet and honeyed. Plums too, and some oak as one might expect from a 40 year old gentlemen.

Palate: Wood and sweet dried fruit. Sultana, dates, and a peppery edge too. Spicy wood. Kirsch.

Finish: Dried fruit with those black fruit. Honey and oak wood.

What a delightful dram this one is, and so elegant and enticing. I wanted to reach for another dram, but sadly only this wee sample. at 46% it’s really surprisingly rich and not lacking (I usually find myself longing for more oomph above the 50’s %)

Score: 90/100

Thanks you Andreas!
