Another wee dram which is exclusive to the Whisky Barrel online shop. After very nice Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila, this time we’re talking Macduff here… Single cask, sherry butt, 60% ABV,120 bottles only,Specially selected by Doug McIvor of Berry Brothers & Rudd, Only available online at TheWhiskyBarrel web shop. Macduff is currently owned by the Bacardi group, and is currently making most of it’s whisky for blends, hence not many bottlings exist, and most are IB. It’s currently producing 2,400,000 liters of Alcohol per annum.
Macduff 11 yo, 2000 , Fresh Sherry Butt #5774 , 120 btl , £33.33
Nose: Almonds, marzipan, sweet and spiced. Vanilla and quite a few sweet-bourbon-y notes, in addition to dried fruit.
Palate: Dark chocolate, balsamic which turns bitter with espresso right away. Tobacco and spice.
Finish: Medium. Truffles, and peppery tang.
All in all a very unique profile, not the classic sherry. it’s darker, and with more tobacco and espresso inside. Young, but not un-complex. interesting stuff.
