A few months ago my good whisky friend Sjoerd announced another one of his famous bottle shares, this time a Bladnoch forum bottling share. Bladnoch in addition to being a distillery do operate as IB, and as such offer quite a few such bottling. I must confess it took me a lot of time to reach those samples, as my sample queue was getting longer and longer (not complaining here , eh?) . It’s time to kick of the series of Bladnoch IBs, Starting with a 27 year old Teaninich .
Teaninich is a Highlands distillery with a 2,700,000 2,700,000 Liter capacity, currently owned by Diageo. The majority of its malts go into blending, hence no OBs and mostly independent bottling versions of their malt exist, as well as a ‘Flora & Fauna’ 10 year old expression.
Not all that glitters is gold, and not every single cask is a great cask, as we’re about to find out soon.
Teaninich 27 Year Old 1982 (Bladnoch) , 50.70% , 209 btls , cask # 7698
Nose: Lemon sherbet with some malty notes vanilla as well. Very fresh.
Palate : Quite gentle in the taste profile after the initial alcohol burn is gone. A bit of water might take that. A lot of barley notes and a creamy feeling to it. Not bad but not very complex or unique. Ok.
Finish : Short. That’s it? (that’s what she said…)
Frankly I was rather disappointed by this one. It’s OK, but no more, and for a single cask 27 year old Highlander, this is not enough. Price is not high too, but now all gone.
Hmm… I own one bottle. Bought it after I tasted the sample out of the same share. Special one for me: 1982 is my birth-year, 2010 of my son. I was 27 when he was born. We’ll open it on his 18th birthday in 2028! Then it’s (technically) 45yo!
Looking forward to that moment…
so you liked it? very nice 1982. my wee sister was born that year. i have to search deep in my pockets for a 1975 vintage (which is mine). 😉 i am thinking an Ardbeg. i should get it now for my 40th bday in a few year’s time. Boy i am getting OLD!
