Only a few days ago The Dalmore has released a new limited expression which is now available only in the whisky shop chain. Named ‘The Distillery Manager’s Exclusive’ the whisky was chosen for release by Distillery Manager Ian Mackay to celebrate the at the newly refurbished Dalmore Distillery Visitor Centre. The ‘Distillery Manager’s Exclusive’ has been matured in Matusalem sherry casks and American white oak casks and is priced at £84.99 , and also limited to 1,800 bottles. I was fortunate enough to get a wee sneak sample of this one, and here are my notes.
The Dalmore 1995 , £84.99 , 40% , 1,800 btls
Nose :rich and quite vibrant with spices(cinnamon wood bark) and some dark chocolate covered nuts.
Palate: Blood oranges , orange peel a lot of dark chocolate with some dried fruit (think plums and dates) and cocoa with earthy coffee beans and wet soil.
Finish: Dark chocolate and plum juice.
All in all it’s a nice Dalmore, and continues the Dalmore signature with the orange peel, dried fruit and spice theme. I would have loved to see a higher ABV% especially as this is a very limited edition, and an exclusive. a 48% would have made this one much better. In general I think I would like to see Dalmores with higher % ABV, even at a premium price.
Score: 83/100
Many thanks to the dalmore team for the official sample.
