A tasting note, and a twitter conversation between a few whisky fanatics like myself, has led me to post a new poll.
The facts:
Say you have an old and good bottling of a whisky at 40%, at a reasonable price, would you agree to pay 30% more, and get a richer fuller higher %ABV of the same whisky?
Voting is open, I will post the poll results next week.
Poll:
I think the poll is a bit off, because 50% is still diluted. I would certainly pay more for cask strength, but then I expect the real deal without any added water. 50% is certainly better than 40%, but then again I would not by a 30YO diluted to 40%. Age matters, but I would rather have a 25YO with full body than a thin 30YO.
thanks for the comment eglib.
The reason i asked this question about a 40% 30 yo, is because i was blogging about such a whisky, and i wanted to give a more relistic scenario. i agree when we’re speaking quality malts CS is the way to go.
The problem is that cs is not always better. So for me it ‘s depenting if it ‘s better.
Sometimes a cs needs water so when de masterdistiller thinks it Will be better at 40 or 46 % so why not…….
Why should a random master blender, who might be liking the exact opposite whiskies ass you, decide the ABV of your whisky. Gimme casks strength. I can add water myself if needed. Most master blenders have a taste in whisky that involves too much E150 and H20 for my likings…If I want to destroy a whisky I got coke in my fridge and I can do it myself
Hell no.
just vote mate!
