You all know that i have a warm spot in my heart for the AnCnocs. The 12 year old is a house favourite here, so light and gentle, great for summer, and after having visited the distillery a few months ago, and meeting the lovely distillery people and manager, every time i sip on a wee dram, those lovely memories come back. green speyside fields, the hill, sheep and the lovely surroundings. well, back to reality. Israel, is not as green, and not as picturesque…
I was happy to try this new vintage, the 1997 which is the latest of the vintages to hit the shelves. Bottled without adding Caramel and non chill filtered, makes this one something to look for… well, let’s get dramming!
AnCnoc 1997 , 46% ABV, £50 (WhiskyShop)
Nose: A mouth watering combination of wood, sugary liquor and vanilla. Some toffee, and honey with hints of marshmallow.
Palate: Spicy on entry, with wood spices and ginger, then a few whiffs of peat, very subtle stuff. malty backbone, and fruits(ripe orange, stewed apples) combine for a great and balanced palate.
Finish : Ginger bread dipped in honey.
A lovely dram, from nose to finish. Whisky done right. Period. I am digging this. big time. I think i need a bottle of this. Currently only available at the whisky shop.go get one if you can.
