This one concludes the recent excellent single cask bottlings released by MoM (North British 20 yo,Cragganmore 20 yo,and the somewhat weird Dalmore 14yo) which i reviewed recently. This one a Dailuaine 27 year old is very interesting, and IMHO, the best of the bunch. Not many Dailuaine single casks bottling out there, so this is double the fun.
Bottled on the 14th July 2011. This was distilled at Dailuaine on the 2nd November 1983, and it was aged for 27 years in a refill sherry hogshead, which had an outturn of just 231 bottles.
Dailuaine 1983 , 27 yo, single cask, 53.6% ABV , 231, £65
Nose: Starting with Big ginger , zest hovering above a malty sweet heart. Some beeswax. as well as honey.
Palate : Sweet nectar of the gods! Honey, spicy stuff. Liquid honey syrup , wood , a bit of leather , wax, mint , complex stuff indeed !
Finish : spicy dough. Plums.
Bottom line:
Master of malt has named this one “Hedonistic”, and i must agree. Sweet, spicy stuff. If you’re into sweet sherry goodness, then this one is a perfect match for you. Excellent old Dailuaine. Try it before you buy (available in 30ml sample as well) And the price is right! The best of the bunch, IMHO. Master of Malt has done it again, great choice of cask. let’s hope they have more surprises up their sleeve.
Score: 92/100
Many thanks to the chaps over at Master of Malt for this official sample.
Seems like this is one of the best value for money bottlings that you have rated…
